How To Stay Flexible And Aligned In Your Relationship (Clip)

Okay. You know what? I don't see it your way. In fact, I think it's not going to work or I'd prefer it not to.

Or I disagree with you, but you know what, since you feel strongly about it, I'm willing to try it. Yes. And then let's try it and we'll reevaluate.

Yeah. And so I think that that's a great compromise for when you're sort of, okay, well, I don't know which way to go. And then it's like, okay, rather than just be at a standstill, why don't you just try it? Try going in one way.

Like go left. If it's a decision that can do that, yeah. If it's a decision.

Yeah. Just try going one way. And then if that doesn't work, try the other.

And a lot of times it can work that way. You adjust together. Right.

And so when we tried it and I realized, oh, that was actually a little bit too ambitious or maybe too intense to put something like that on her. And so I go, let's dial that back. Let's shift.

There's got to be ways that whether it's pull more weight or just shift so that it can give her some more flexibility with what she needs. And that is, I think at the heart of it, that's a partnership, right? You're just meeting each other's needs, whether it's in the middle or on one side or the other side, but you're helping fill in the gaps. That's why two are better than one, right? This is the goal that we've chosen for ourselves.

And so we are partnered together on that. You as a marriage or with your future spouse have to decide on what those goals are for yourself and how you guys will lift each other up. I think the point though, is that you think that a relationship is about, well, okay, it's equal.

So I'm going to give 50%, you give 50%. But no, it's a relationship and a great partnership. It's where both people are giving a hundred percent.

I'm giving my best. You're giving your best. That can cover up a lot of faults or weaknesses or mistakes where I don't have it.

You can help lift me up.
